Nissan Announces a New GT-R NISMO Special Edition
What is the Nissan NISMO program?
Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd. (NISMO) was founded in September 1984 as a specialist company to support Nissan motorsports. NISMO’s mission is to achieve success in motorsports using Nissan vehicles, engines, and components.
NISMO’s more than 30 years of experience has contributed to producing highly recognized, high-performance vehicles such as the GT-R NISMO, 370Z NISMO, and Sentra NISMO. The division’s philosophy of high performance, unique styling, and world-class sports handling are injected into each product.
What is unique about the GT-R NISMO special edition?
The GT-R NISMO is Nissan’s highest performance sports car, designed and constructed with authentic, race-proven technology. Rated at 600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque, the VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 remains the heart of the GT-R’s drivetrain. The GT-R NISMO Special Edition utilizes high-precision, balanced piston rings, connecting rods, crankshaft, and valve gear components. Each engine is hand-assembled in a special clean room by master mechanics known as Takumi.
Outside, the GT-R NISMO Special Edition stands out with NISMO-exclusive red-accented, 20-inch RAYS forged aluminum-alloy wheels, NISMO-exclusive Stealth Gray exterior paint, and a unique clear-coated carbon fiber hood. For the first time for the GT-R, the Nissan logo adorns the trunk lid and wheel caps.
A limited number of the GT-R NISMOs will be available in North America this fall.
What other NISMO models are available?
Nissan 370Z NISMO – This NISMO model sports a 3.7L V6 engine with 350 horsepower and 276 lb-ft of torque. A vivid red tachometer sits at the center of the gauge cluster to let you know how fast that V6 is churning. Designed for minimum drag, its front fascia, rear diffuser, and spoiler have been reworked since last year to add more downforce. In the cabin, Recaro performance seats feature rubbery red Alcantara inserts. Outside, 19-inch RAYS forged alloy wheels look great with a NISMO-exclusive two-tone finish and one can see the massive red Brembo calipers through the wheel spokes.
The Sentra inside cabin design is inspired by the race track. Carbon fiber accents grace the center console and door panels, and the leather-wrapped steering wheel includes a leather red stripe.
